This is a stovetop homemade cat food recipe made with a small 1.5 kg chicken, created for people who don’t use a pressure cooker and need a practical, batch-friendly option.
This video was made in response to a viewer who feeds a feral cat colony on the island of Majorca in the Mediterranean and needed a version of my recipe that works on a standard stovetop using a smaller chicken.
Small roasters like this are hard to find where I live in the U.S., but I tracked one down and adapted my chicken-only recipe to make it accessible without specialized equipment.
You’ll see the real process here... including a scorched pot of lentils (it happens). The chicken cooked perfectly, and my cats have been scarfing this batch enthusiastically.
This recipe:
Uses one small whole chicken with organ meat included
Is designed for batch cooking
Works well mixed with dry kibble
Can be frozen, pressure canned, or refrigerated (about one week)
Batch yield: approximately 26 days of food for a cat eating ~250 calories per day when fed only this food (no kibble or other wet food).
Ingredients Used:
1 small whole chicken (organ meat included, ~1.5 kg)
Lentils (1.5 cups dry / ~3.5 cups cooked)
Carrot
Green peas
Kale
Eggs
Ground flax seed
Nutritional yeast
Sunflower oil
Ground turmeric
Black pepper
This video is intentionally long-form and realistic, showing what stovetop cat food prep actually looks like, mistakes included.
If you’re feeding multiple cats, a feral colony, or just need a pressure-cooker-free option, I hope this helps. Every cat is different, so do your own research and adjust as needed.
