Modern SUPER-RS meets historic castle tower
The historic Wiesenburg, Germany, castle tower dates back to 1161. It was the only safe refuge when the rest of the castle was destroyed by a fire in 1547 that was started by Charles V. After an eventful history – including use as a school and boarding school – the complex is now used as an exclusive residential and office ensemble.
For the renovation work on the balustrade of the castle tower, which focused on carpentry work, timber structures and studwork, a metre-wide working and protective scaffold made of SUPER-RS material from the Hagen-based manufacturer Scafom-rux was erected, which, due to the required inner distance of 50 cm, was not only provided with an advance outer railing but also an advance inner railing. The scaffolding will be in place for around three to four months, three male scaffolders and one female scaffolder are working on the project. ‘Our female colleague is particularly pleased with the new SUPER-RS, because the individual parts made of standards and ledgers can be transported much better by hand than the heavy and unwieldy 1-m-wide frames of conventional façade scaffolding,’ says owner David Burgdorf.
David Gerüsttechnik decided to switch to the SUPER-RS system because it already had a lot of RINGSCAFF modular scaffolding material and because SUPER-RS facade scaffolding can be easily connected to modular scaffolding attachments, such as stairway towers, using RINGSCAFF discs. Diagonals and ledgers can continue to be used, as can the decks and many other parts. SUPER-RS has now been in use for several months, although the changeover was initially met with some reservation by the employees – after all, modular façade scaffolding involves handling more individual parts than frame scaffolding. But then they quickly realised that the same safety factor as with the SUPER-RS is very difficult and, above all, time-consuming to achieve with frame scaffolding. David Burgdorf's conclusion about the SUPER-RS: ‘Mega system – it's like a Lego set: Everything comes together by itself. The speed is still a little slower than with a frame scaffold, but that relativises when you also factor in the assembly of advanced guardrail solutions with the conventional frame scaffold. If you don't do that, you're quickly comparing apples and oranges. With side protection seamlessly integrated into the system, as with the SUPER-RS – that's simply the future!’
