A spellbinding rendition of Raga Shankara was offered by Ustad Bahauddin Dagar on the Rudra Veena. The slot was originally meant for a junior musician, but as the audience had not yet gathered, Bahauddin-ji chose to play instead, ensuring that the younger artist would later have listeners before whom to perform. In the opening minutes, one hears the audience gradually assembling, their quiet conversations filling the background. Yet, with just a few phrases of the alap, the room was transformed—voices hushed, and all attention converged on the unfolding raga. Pandit Sanjay Agle’s sensitive and powerful pakhawaj accompaniment added depth to the performance. By its conclusion, the atmosphere was so charged with emotion that many in the audience were moved to tears.
The Guru Darshan Shibir remains one of those rare experiences whose true significance becomes clearer only in retrospect. Senior disciples of Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, along with their own students, spent two days at the MIT Campus in Pune—immersed in learning, listening, and exchanging ideas in an environment of informal intimacy. These interactions deepened the bonds of the Dagarvani tradition. Among the distinguished participants were Ustad Fariduddin Dagar, Pandit Ritwik Sanyal, Pandit Pushpraj Koshti, Pandit Uday Bhawalkar, Ustad Bahauddin Dagar, Pandit Nirmalya Dey, and the Gundecha Brothers, along with many others who together created an extraordinary musical gathering.
