A Walk with The Relic: Columbus Zoo The Reptile House

Okay, we've reached the Reptile House, at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium! Here you will find snakes (both venomous and otherwise), lizards and turtles of various types, and the occasional fish swimming with the turtles.

There's even a couple of caimans hanging around! Those creatures ( kind of like alligators but not quite) always remind me of my 10th Grade Zoology teacher back in 1978-79, Mr. Neff. He had a number of turtles and lizards in tanks around the class, as well as a small setup in front of the class with a three-feet long caiman.

This caiman, over a summer vacation, escaped from his basement and somehow made its way to the Groveport Golf Club, and ended up in one of the water traps on the course! It was discovered there and taken back home, but there was a local shop who fished golf balls out of those traps and re-sold them in egg cartons.

For many years they had a sign up on their window advertising "alligator eggs" for sale :)
