The tenor aria Geduld! Geduld! is not only a beautiful aria musically, but also a wonderful example of how Bach fuses text and musical expression into one. The "schimpf und spot" - taunts and ridicule can be heard in the viola da gamba, in the tenor line the anger at false tongues against which patience must be practiced.
Singing this great work by Bach is a tradition that we revisit each year in churches and concert halls. In the years that covid impacted so many lives around the world, we weren't able to sing before an audience. Our project, the "Silent Passion" was all about ensuring that Bach's music was heard nevertheless.
In the third of four installments, Alberto ter Doest, tenor with @NederlandsKamerkoor performs the aria with Freek Borstlap on the viola da gamba and Gerard de Wit on the organ.
