Zambia's agriculture sector, contributing approximately 2.8% to the nation's GDP in 2023, remains a cornerstone of the economy. Despite its potential, the sector faces challenges such as limited mechanisation, inadequate irrigation infrastructure, and vulnerability to climate change.
Simultaneously, Zambia is experiencing a transformative shift in its energy landscape. With an electrification rate of around 27.9%, the country is investing in renewable energy projects to meet the growing demand, especially in rural areas. Notable projects include the Riverside Solar Power Station (34 MW) and the Itimpi Solar Power Station (60 MW), reflecting the nation's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Building-up to the Invest in Zambia International Conference (IZIC) 2025 (www.zda.org.zm/izic/) taking place in Lusaka from the 16–18 of July, the NABC (www.nabc.nl) and the Zambia Development Agency (www.zda.org.zm/), with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia, hosted a webinar exploring the intersection of agriculture and renewable energy in Zambia. The webinar will highlight opportunities for Dutch companies to invest and collaborate in enhancing agri-value chains through sustainable energy solutions.
