In 2004, a fashion breakthrough saw Muslim women claim their place in the pool.
Aheda Zanetti, the Australian designer of the Burqini, hoped that by adding a little bit of extra material, her swimwear would encourage Muslim women to participate in sports and swimming.
The Burqini quickly became and worldwide phenomenon and has since appeared in Sports Illustrated's coveted swimsuit edition.
