As you will see, this time around, I have no agenda for this video, no political take, and few concerns about racking up “views.” Today, I am playing for an audience of one.

"Till" is a popular song with music by Charles Danvers and English lyrics by Carl Sigman, released in January 1957 by Percy Faith. It was derived from the French song "Prière Sans Espoir", released in 1956 by Lucien Lupi on the EP L'Amour Viendra with original French lyrics written by Pierre Benoit Buisson. One of the more successful English-language covers of this classic was performed by Tom Jones, and released in 1971. It reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart, and #41 on Billboard.

Okay, but what’s a 65-year-old dude like me doing singing a song (with a high A-flat) which was originally sung by a [30-year-old] superstar? In all honesty, I did use a 12% auto-tune setting on this one, thus you’ll hear the occasional formant-shift in my timbre—the old pipes aren’t quite what they used to be, and my vibrato is a wee bit wonky.

It is worth mentioning that 46 years ago, for a decade, I had a very successful solo act, performing vocal impressions of Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Elvis, Willie Nelson, Julio Iglesias, Kenny Rogers, Roy Orbison, and many others, all over North America. My agent billed me as “Canada’s Tom Jones.”

I sang “Till” at least 2,000 times, in nightclubs and theatres across this continent (including “A” rooms like the Ziegfeld Room of the former MGM Grand, and Toronto’s Imperial Room). I used the song as the opener for my Tom Jones show-medley (Till, She’s A Lady, I Who Have Nothing, and Delilah).

I eternally express my profound admiration for, and gratitude to, Mr. Jones (aka Sir Thomas John Woodward), who was my bread and butter for a decade, and who, in my humble opinion, is the greatest pop singer of all time—no one can match his power, timbre, dynamics, and perfect intonation… no one.”

If you want to sing this song, you are in your sixties (like me), and you have asthma or COPD, you need to make a concerted effort to wean off [under medical supervision] of any steroid-based medications (such as Advair and Flovent). I was prescribed Advair for a decade (2012 to 2024), and discovered, the hard way, that it was ruining my voice. U.S. Health Secretary RFK Jr. will tell you that he has a horrific voice due to dysphonia, a neurological disorder…. the more-likely cause is that he is a heavy steroid user. My fellow singers…. you can regain your voice, as I did.

Today, I sing “Till” for my beloved wife Lina, just as I sang it for her at our wedding reception (July 31, 1994) when I performed my wild (and raunchy) TJ show for 150 guests. Lina, you are my reason to live. 💗👩🏻
