Steve Magnante breaks down this incredible 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am special edition Bandit package that will be auctioned off by Richmond Auctions Oct 24-25. You can register at bid.richmondauctions.com. Here is a description of this lot:
No Reserve. Hot on the heels of the successful blockbuster movie 'Smokey and the Bandit,' Pontiac wasted no time capitalizing on the star of this movie, a black and gold Trans Am driven recklessly by Burt Reynolds with a fearful Sally Field riding shotgun. The marketing folks within Pontiac created the 'Special Edition Package' (sales code Y-82), but the community simply called them 'Bandit Trans Ams.' This Special Edition Trans Am was ordered with the Pontiac-built L78 400 cubic-inch engine and mated to a four-speed close-ratio transmission with a Posi Traction Rear Differential. It also comes with air conditioning, deluxe interior, AM/FM radio with tape player, space saver spare tire, engine block heater, and other items. Painted black with Custom gold decals and gold snowflake wheels made this Trans Am Special Edition stood out among others. But the coolest feature on the Special Edition Package was the Hurst Hatch (or T-top) that adds even more value to this car. PMD records may show 15,567 Special Edition Trans Am models were built in 1977, but there are very few in this great condition that drive and show very well! Comes with extensive paperwork and documents. With the fast appreciation of late 1970s Pontiac Trans Ams, now is the time to get in before market values rise! VIN: 2W87Z7N173808.
