Part three: Making the log house. Traditional Norwegian housebuilding. This video will show how we plane the logs, make profiles on some beams and complete different details when we finish the making of the timber house. Even if we work with some modern tools running on electricity, the principles and most of the handcraft are as old as the axes! Some of the tools we use are originals from the 19th century, and some are copies of old hand tools.
We are Olivia and Sjur, and we are building our own log house! We will soon be moving to a small farm named Åsgård in the village of Granberget in Engerdal County, Norway. Sjur's grandparents were the first homesteaders to move to the village in 1937. They soon broke ground, bred farm animals, and built houses. In the first small house, Sjur's father and his four siblings were born and raised.
Now we need to build a new house for ourselves. We want to use traditional building techniques and materials. It's also important for us to reuse and build with as small a footprint as possible on the environment. A part of this house will be the old original log house from my grandparents. We want to share as much of the building process with you as we can.

Music: Cover of "Kate Mccannon" by Colter Wall. Cover of "En stjerne fra en annen tid" is a beautiful christmas song with Norwegian words by Roy Lønhøiden. The song is originally written by Billy Joe Shaver and is called "Presents from the past". Played by me. Hope you like it. Sjur
