Iceland Golden Circle in One Day! 🇮🇸 | October 2024 Road Trip

We explored the best of what the Golden Circle has to offer, and this is the perfect way to end or begin the Ring Road OR just to do as a day trip from Reykjavik.

📍 Morning: Brúarfoss Waterfall Hike
Known as "Iceland’s Bluest Waterfall" — and worth the early start
~3.5 km roundtrip hike on a mostly flat, well-marked trail
Go before 9am to beat the crowds
One of the most photogenic (and underrated) stops on the Golden Circle

🐎 Quick Stop: Icelandic Horses
Pulled over (safely!) for a quick hello to the friendliest locals. Don't feed (or touch) unless permitted!

🌋 Geysir Geothermal Area
Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes — we saw it multiple times!
Explore bubbling vents and colorful hot springs nearby
Stay for more than one eruption — they can vary in size!

💦 Gullfoss Waterfall
One of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls, dropping 32 meters
Rainbows on sunny days — and intense mist on windy ones
Multiple viewpoints, so find them all!

🍅 Lunch at Friðheimar Greenhouse Restaurant
Tomato soup + bread served in a real greenhouse
Didn’t have a reservation, but got seated at the bar! Make sure to book yours months in advance

🌍 Þingvellir National Park (UNESCO Site)
Where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart
Walk the Almannagjá fault line and see Óxarárfoss waterfall
Parking: 750 ISK
Also the site of Iceland’s first parliament, founded in 930 AD

🚘 Drive to Reykjavik
We wrapped up the day with a peaceful golden hour drive back into Reykjavik. The Golden Circle is a classic for a reason — and a perfect way to end our Ring Road journey.
