In this week's edition of The Middle East Report, Simon Barrett is joined by Iranian freedom activist Niyak Gorbani and Itai Galmud, the founder of Stop The Hate, to discuss the mass protest movement in Iran aimed at bringing down the regime.
We are currently in the third week of a mass protest movement that is evolving into a revolution in Iran. According to the Foundation for the Defence of Democracies, a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C., at least 574 protest locations have been identified across 185 cities in all 31 provinces of Iran. This marks the most sustained and geographically widespread anti-regime movement in the history of the Islamic Republic.
The survival of the totalitarian Islamic Republic of Iran hangs by a thread; this is why Supreme Leader Khamenei has ordered the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to commit horrific acts of violence against the protesters to quell the movement. We ask: can the brave people of Iran overthrow this oppressive regime and restore peace and stability to Iran and the Middle East?
