Hey all, just a quick and drawn out feature comparison of these two competitively equal short scale basses plus a channel update. In this video I go over some of the first pro's and cons that jump out at me when comparing these basses side by side.
This Pearl White Ibanez Gio Soundgear GSRM20 MiKro Bass and this Satin Black Jackson JS Series Concert Minion JS1X Bass have similar price points and have equally similar features but have some design elements that may be more or less preferential to different players and musical tastes.
They both boast a short scale length of 28.6", a P&J pickup configuration, 2 volume & 1 master tone control(s), bolt on necks, 22 frets, 12" radius fingerboards, slim/fast necks and a whole lot more.
They have some minor differences in wood types, aesthetic design, and hardware. As we know the devil can be in the details and this video basically gives you some practical considerations beyond the typical hype. Although these are my opinions I hope they help even one person to choose the right one for themselves. As for myself, I couldn't choose and had to have both of them, LOL.
I hope you all enjoyed my rambling and find this in good health and happiness. Keep on rocking folks and take care. :) \M/ \M/
EDIT: In the video I said I might switch the drop tuning to the Jackson. In retrospect because of said break angle and the fact that I don't want to file the tuning post or the nut slot to accommodate the larger string, I have had to put my own practical advice into practice, which was the point of this video, (I think???). Golly, who knew this video already helped someone (me). Oh the irony, funny how that works.
Also I fully understand that the Ibanez saddles have the 1/2" tab excursion on them to prevent binding that can cause issues. My experience is that it is still confining and sometimes you just need that extra turn to get perfection in intonation. These limit the ability to do so and that's why I like the barrel type better. No hate just practical observation based on my playing comfort zone as well as typically available equipment and conventions such as string gauges, tunings, etc... :)
