The Boy with a Catapult | Bhisham Sahni Explanation in English #CBSE class 8


The Boy with a Catapult is the story of Bodh Raj. He is cruel, vindictive and callous. He got pleasure out of killing birds, beasts, insects. He always keeps a catapult in his hands. 


He was an insensitive boy who would scare everyone with his weird actions. He could catch a wasp with his bare fingers, sometimes he would hold and crush a butterfly sitting on a flower and then pin it to his notebook.

Once, the narrator calls him to help clear the nests in their godown. There, when Bodh Raj is trying to hit the baby birds with his catapult; he notices a Kite bird attacking them. 


This suddenly changes his heart and he protects the baby birds from the attack of the kite. After this incident, he transformed completely and instead of hitting them with a catapult he brought grain to feed the birds.
