The Etruscan civilization, which developed in Etruria (modern-day Tuscany) from the 7th century BCE, had a profound influence on Rome and the Western world. Their origins remain debated, with theories pointing to local, Eastern, or North African roots. Organized into independent yet allied city-states, the Etruscans were known for their social hierarchy, mystical religion, refined art, and architectural advancements. Although their language remains largely undeciphered, the Etruscans left a lasting mark on Roman religion, politics, and culture before being absorbed by Rome following defeats such as the Battle of Sentinum in 295 BCE.
