This is the final dance of the Retrospective session honoring Tony Parkes at the 2020 Ralph Page Dance Legacy Weekend. The clip opens with MC David Millstone reading comments about Tony Parkes by caller Lisa Greenleaf, followed by Tony Parkes himself taking the caller's mic to call The Merry-Go-Round. The dance is based on traditional figures, put into a dance by Ralph Page, modified by Ted Sannella, and further adapted by Tony.
Ted Sannella described the dance thus:
"This is an extemporaneous dance with the
following structure:
"
First lady/gent turns various others in the
square by the right/left hand and finishes by
swinging her/his partner in the center while
the other six circle left around the outside.
All promenade to home.
"Second lady/gent does the same (or similar).
"Third lady/gent does the same (or similar).
"Fourth lady/gent does the same (or similar)."
Musicians are Sue Hunt, piano; David Surrette, mandolin; Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki, fiddle. Recorded by John Gfroerer for the New Hampshire Library of Traditional Music and Dance at Special Collections, Dimond Library, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH.
