In rural West Bengal, menstruation is a topic shrouded in silence and stigma. For many women and girls, this leads to unhygienic practices, environmental pollution from improperly disposed pads, and a deep sense of shame. But a quiet revolution is taking place.
"Beyond the Stigma" tells the inspiring story of a group of women in Hooghly who decided to fight back. Initially met with laughter, they underwent training, supported by the PepsiCo Foundation and WaterAid, to create their own sustainable, reusable cloth sanitary pads. These pads not only last up to 3.5 years, saving money and protecting the environment, but they've also become a source of income and empowerment.
Watch as these women turn their newfound skills into a thriving small business, creating their own brands ('Ichhe Dana' and 'Suraksha Sakhi'), earning their first-ever income, and using technology like WhatsApp to take orders. This is a powerful journey of breaking taboos, building financial independence, and inspiring an entire community to talk openly about menstrual health.
