The Tornek-Rayville TR-660 is one of the most compelling modern military-inspired dive watches available today — not because it’s flashy, but because of what it represents.
I signed up for the waitlist at the very start of 2025, received my allocation email in April, placed my deposit, and waited the better part of a year before finally completing the purchase in October and receiving the watch in December. This wasn’t an impulse buy — it was a long, deliberate wait for a watch rooted in real military history.
Tornek-Rayville traces its origins back to the 1960s and the original TR-900, a U.S. Navy–issued dive watch born out of the Buy American Act and closely tied to Blancpain’s legendary Fifty Fathoms. Most original TR-900s were decommissioned and destroyed, leaving only a handful known to survive today — watches that are effectively unobtainable for most collectors.
The modern TR-660 isn’t trying to recreate something that shouldn’t be worn anymore. Instead, it captures the spirit of that original tool watch in a way that’s honest, functional, and meant to be used.
In this video, I take a deep dive into the TR-660 non-date configuration with the sapphire bezel insert and sapphire crystal — a version I genuinely believe is the best Tornek-Rayville has released. From the slab-sided bead-blasted case and purposeful dial layout to the Seiko NE15 automatic movement regulated in-house, this watch is built with intention at every step.
The sapphire bezel adds durability and depth without losing the vintage character, and paired with the Nytex strap — as well as a single-pass strap from Watches of Espionage — the watch truly comes alive on the wrist.
This isn’t a luxury dive watch pretending to be a tool. And it isn’t a cheap knockoff chasing history. It lives in a very narrow space between those two worlds — and that’s exactly why it works.
