이종교배로 탄생한 동물은 왜 종족 유지를 못할까?

일반적으로 다른 종끼리는 번식할 수 없지만, 특정 조건에서는 생명이 탄생하기도 합니다. 예를 들어서 말과 당나귀, 호랑이와 사자 등 이종 간에서 태어나는 경우로 이렇게 태어난 동물을 이종교배 종이라고 합니다. 그런데 이종교배로 탄생하 대부분 번식 능력이 없어 그 종족을 이어가기 어렵습니다. 이유가 뭘까요?
