Huawei Mate 20 Pro Repair How To Fit A New Battery

How to fit a new battery in a Huawei Mate 20 Pro Mobile Phone.

Symptoms: The battery life had reduced quickly over a short period of time to the extent that as soon as the charger was unplugged the phone would power off.

You'll see in the video that the original battery had swollen so much that it partially pushed the back cover off. This was not noticed initially as the phone was in a case. When phone batteries fail they can swell, like this one had.

We purchased a repair kit and a new battery ( links below to the actual ones we purchased ). The repair kit will help remove the rear cover and the screws which hold the metal plate. The battery is for the Mate 20 Pro model.

Removing the rear panel *
The swollen battery helped us as it pushed the rear cover off. Huawei models can use strong glue. Heat up the rear in small sections with a hair dryer and use the pry tools to gently part the case. Slowly progress around the case until all the glue has been released.

Tips - in no particular order *
1. Take care with the locater near the small silver screw on the metal plate covering the camera.
2. Watch out for the sprung contacts under the metal plate when prying the screen, battery and main connectors. You dont want to damage the sprung contacts.
3. After fitting the new battery connect the charger and power the phone before fitting the metal plate/Qi assembly and rear cover... if you find the phone is stuck in a reboot loop you can fix this without having to take the rear cover off again.
4. When prying the connectors off take care near the cameras... they are delicate.
5. Ensure you use the high power quick charger if you need to perform the boot loop fix, an ordinary cable/charger will not cut the mustard.
6. Before you start the repair if the phone is bootable, turn off wifi, bluetooth, gps location and drop the screen brightness. This will reduce power consumption in the even you need to piggy back the original battery if you get stuck in a boot loop.
