What’s it’s like to have to talk to the FAA as an aircraft mechanic at American Airlines

As an aircraft mechanic sometimes we make mistakes with the paperwork and if the FAA is there that night to audit the airlines and finds that you have made a mistake with the paperwork he or she will generally want to talk to you to verify that you understand the paperwork and why you are doing what you are doing. Sometimes the FAA inspector will also inspect aircrafts that are being worked on my aircraft maintenance. Always be sure to have the maintenance procedures printed out and with you while you are performing your duties and also have your aircraft maintenance license with you. If by chance you do a particular procedure and forget to do something then you can use the ASAP program. This program allows you to self disclose any mistakes that you may have made. It is an online procedure and it absolves you from any punishment which may occur otherwise. The best practice is always to not rush through the work and to double check your work when you are done before signing the work off.
