जमशेदपुर शहर के बाहरी इलाके में समुद्र तल से 3,000 फीट की ऊंचाई पर स्थित, दलमा हिल्स घने जंगलों और प्राचीन सुवर्णरेखा नदी से घिरा हुआ है। आस-पास के क्षेत्रों के शानदार दृश्यों के साथ पहाड़ियों को रॉक क्लाइम्बिंग और ट्रेकिंग जैसे साहसिक-खेलों के लिए आदर्श माना जाता है। मुख्य आकर्षण दलमा वन्यजीव अभयारण्य है, जो तेंदुओं, हाथियों, बाघों, बार्किंग हिरण, स्लॉथ भालू और साही जैसे जीवों का घर है। वन विभाग ने एक रेस्ट हाउस और बांस की झोपड़ियों की भी स्थापना की है, जहां पर्यटक एक रात बिता सकते हैं, जो वास्तव में लुभावना अनुभव होता है। पर्यटक पहाड़ी के ऊपर स्थित भगवान शिव के मंदिर भी जा सकते हैं, यहाँ विभिन्न उत्सवों के अवसरों पर भक्तों की भीड़ देखी जा सकती है।

Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in honour of the deity Shiva. The festival commemorates the wedding of Shiva and Parvati, and is also regarded to be the occasion that the deity performs his divine dance, called the Tandava

महाशिवरात्रि भारतीयों का एक प्रमुख त्यौहार है। यूं तो शिवरात्री प्रत्येक माह की चतुर्दशी को आती है परंतु महाशिवरात्रि का इनमे विशेष स्थान है। यह भगवान शिव का प्रमुख पर्व है। माघ फागुन कृष्ण पक्ष चतुर्दशी को महाशिवरात्रि पर्व मनाया जाता है।

The hilltop on Dalma wildlife sanctuary is located nearly 20 Kms away from Jamshedpur city ( 15 kms from NH33 ). The best time to visit is during winter. The sanctuary is having a forest guest house which can be booked from Mango Forest Range Office, Jamshedpur.
The sanctuary is an ideal spot for trekking. Another attraction for devotees is a Lord Shiva temple situated on the hilltop.
Dalma is known as a paradise for elephants. The other inhabitants are barking deers, bears apart from several species of birds


Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary

Introduction

The Sanctuary gets it's name from the "Dalma mai" a local goddess who is revered and worshipped by the local people and the people of adjoining villages of Dalma. The sanctuary lies on the Chottanagpur Plateau of Jharkhand, contiguous with the steel city Jamshedpur. The river Swarnrekha meandering along with the sanctuary area. The sanctuary covers almost 193 sq. Km. of forest area.

The sanctuary was notified as Dalma Wildlife sanctuary by erstwhile government of Bihar under section 18(1) on wildlife (protection) Act, 1972 vide Gazette notification number S.O. 1221, dated the 17th July, 1976.  The forests of Dalma come under the category "Dry peninsular sal" and "Northern dry mixed deciduous Forest". Dalma wildlife sanctuary is situated around the Dalma hills. Dalma wildlife sanctuary is a much larger area starting from Chandil to 40 km east. It contains significant population of Indian elephants.
