Battery thermal Management: how does it work? | Valeo

Do you know what one of the biggest deterrents to buying an electric car is? Most studies conducted on the matter found that a short driving range is a strong deterrent for many prospective buyers.

As a world expert in smart electrification systems , Valeo develops solutions to alleviate these concerns. We have conceived smart thermal management systems that not only help maintain battery life, but can increase an electric vehicle’s range by up to 30% in winter and up to 20% in summer.

Electric car batteries are extremely sensitive to changes in temperature. They have to be maintained between 15°C and 35°C – an increase of just 10°C halves their service life ❄️

Valeo has developed an expertise in battery cooling systems and offers a comprehensive range of coolers solutions. To cover all the needs for plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles, from a heat pump system that makes the most out of ambient energy to heat, cool and demist car cabins, to electrically driven compressors (EDCs) to cool batteries and control the temperature.
