Basques attended NABO 2014 and the 42nd Annual Kern County Basque Festival in Bakersfield, Calif. displaying their colorful costumes for dancing and playing in the Klika (bugle corp). Since 1979, Basques come together from all corners for one of the largest annual gatherings. A different member club hosts the summer convention.
The Basque picnic in Bakersfield is the largest Basque celebration in California. The Basque festival is held at the Kern County Basque Club every year over Memorial Day weekend. The Basque people come from the region of northern Spain and southern France and speak the oldest language of Europe, which they call "Euskara."
