Today 25th January 2026, the Muslim Disaster Relief Aid (MaDRA), a consortium of eight local and international organizations, has distributed relief food to 2,000 hunger-affected households at Sabwera Village in Traditional Authority Makwangwala, Ntcheu District.
Speaking during the distribution, MaDRA Director of Public Relations and Communication Ibrahim Mataya said the relief package, which includes maize flour, beans, soya pieces, salt, cooking oil and K5,000 cash to each household, is meant to respond to the hunger situation that has affected almost all parts of Malawi during this lean season.
Mataya added that so far, MaDRA has managed to distribute relief food to about 8,000 households, benefiting over 40,000 people, and has already spent more than K500 million, with a target of spending K1 billion on food aid during this lean period.
Group Village Head Nsiyaludzu thanked MaDRA for the support, saying many people in the area are facing food insecurity due to poor rains and the high prices of fertilizer and other farming inputs, which resulted in low harvests.
Member of Parliament for Ntcheu Central Central Constituency, Hon. Norman Chisale, also hailed MaDRA for responding to the government’s declaration of hunger in the country.#MalawiDailyHeadlines #MalawiNews #Ntcheu #MaDRA #MuslimDisasterReliefAid #HungerInMalawi #FoodRelief #ReliefFoodDistribution #LeanSeason #FoodInsecurity #HumanitarianAid #MalawiHungerCrisis #SabweraVillage #TA_Makwangwala #IbrahimMataya #NormanChisale #BreakingNewsMalawi #DailyNewsMalawi #Malawi2026
