Exiled soldier Adam survives alone in a frozen wasteland until he discovers a blue-skinned alien child nearly frozen to death beside her dead mother. Despite the language barrier, the child—whom he calls Lii—communicates that she needs to return to her people beyond the supposedly impassable Ice Ridge. Bearing scars of slavery and pursued by dangers, they embark on an impossible winter crossing of the mountains. When a mysterious blue-furred leopard joins their unlikely party, Adam must decide if he can trust this predator as they face avalanches, crevasses, and deadly hunters. With each step through the brutal landscape, Adam's emotional walls begin to thaw, but the greatest challenge may be what awaits them on the other side—if they survive the crossing at all.
