The SUV That Saved Tiger Woods: 2021 Genesis GV80 on Everyman Driver

The Genesis GV80 that Tiger Woods was driving at the time of his nasty California rollover crash is packed with a host of safety features that may have helped save the links legend’s life. The GV80, a new model and Genesis’ first SUV, has a base retail price of $48,900 and comes equipped with a slew of safety features, including a 10-airbag system. The GV80 also has a blind-spot monitor with “collision-avoidance assist” technology, and a similar system in the rear for safety while reversing, according to Genesis.

The first-ever SUV from the automaker Genesis, the GV80, is a luxury midsize SUV with a focus on premium design elegance and quality. The GV80 has an upscale look and feel that comes in at a price slightly lower than its competitors. With one of the most extensive lists of driver safety aids available, two-or three-row seating, and plenty of sumptuous luxury, the Genesis GV80 demands consideration.

The Genesis GV80 is available in four different styles, which are separated out by their engine and drivetrain. The styles are 2.5T RWD, 2.5T AWD, 3.5T AWD, and 3.5T Advanced+ AWD. Every GV80 style also has an available Advanced Package and Prestige Package that can be added for additional creature comforts.

The 2.5T RWD is the four-cylinder rear-wheel-drive variant and starts the GV80 just under $50,000. Standard exterior equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights with high beam assist, power-folding mirrors with turn signal indicators, and rain-sensing wipers. The GV80’s cabin comes with amenities like 12-way power heated front seats with leatherette seating surfaces, two-setting seat memory, dual-zone climate control, adjustable ambient lighting, a 14.5-inch HD infotainment display, 12-speaker premium audio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, a hands-free power liftgate, and proximity keyless entry. Standard driver safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision assist, lane-change assist with automatic steering avoidance, semi-autonomous highway driving, blind-spot warning, and front and rear parking sensors.

The 2.5T AWD comes in around $55,000. It adds all-wheel-drive, a panoramic roof, matte finish wood trim, ventilated front seats, manual rear side shades, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charger, digital key controllable from a synced smartphone, and a rear occupant alert system.

The 3.5T AWD begins at about $60,000 and adds a twin-turbo V6, monobloc front brakes, an electronically controlled suspension, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The 3.5T Advanced+ AWD can be had for around $65,000 and adds a third row of seating, leather seating surfaces, a surround-view monitor, blind-spot view monitor, remote parking assistant, parking rear collision avoidance, a head-up display, Lexicon 21-speaker audio system, three-zone climate control, and heated second-row seats.
