We're back to work on the C10 Shop Truck, and I'm showing you the method I use to clear coat over patina. Paints need a good base, or at least a properly prepared base, in order to stick and last a long time. The method I use on the firewall is one of the easiest ways to ensure your clear coat will effective on any rat rod or hot rod.
Here's a brief recap:
1) Clean the surface to remove built-up rusty scale. I prefer to use the CLR and scotch-brite technique shown in the video.
2) Allow the surface to dry. Use soap and water if necessary to ensure all CLR is removed.
3) Use adhesion promoter. ( https://amzn.to/3k1jepp )
4) Clear coat. For exterior, I prefer this, as it is super durable and will not break down in the sun ( https://amzn.to/3lv09LR )
