Outline:
Job 1:1-5 displayed his desire to pursue righteousness
I. The tragedy of the righteous (1:13-19)
first dialogue between God and Satan. (1:6-12)
A. Job loses his possessions and children (1:13-19)
second dialogue between God and Satan (2:1-5)
B. Job suffers physical malady (2:6-9)
1. Painful boils from head to toe (2:7, 13; 30:17)
2. Severe itching/irritation (2:7-8)
3. Great grief (2:13)
4. Lost appetite (3:24; 6:6-7)
5. Agonizing discomfort (3:24)
6. Insomnia (7:4)
7. Worm and dust infested flesh (7:5)
8. Continual oozing of boils (7:5)
9. Hallucination (7:14)
10. Decaying skin (13:28)
11. Shriveled up (16:8; 17:7; 19:20)
12. Severe halitosis (19:17)
13. Teeth fell out (19:20)

II. The testimony of the righteous/faithful (1:20-22; 2:10)
A. After he lost his wealth and kids (1:20-22)
B. After he suffered physical pain and after his wife tells him to curse God and die (2:10)
C. After Zophar accused him that he is a sinner, a hypocrite and deserving of God’s wrath (13:15)
D. After Bildad tells him that he deserves all the sufferings that he is experiencing (19:23-27)
E. After Eliphaz told him that God does not care with all his concerns (23:8-10)
III. The treatment of the spectators (3-37)
Ø Read: 2:11-13
Ø they should have just sat with Job and did a ministry of presence…
why because later we see how instead of helping they made things worse for Job..
Ø You say it best when you say nothing at all.
Ø 3 cycles of dialogues with his friends who tried to figure out why Job was suffering.
Yet all their advises were unfounded and unjust and untrue.
A. Eliphaz the Temanite
1. Urges Job to repent and come to God is humility (4:1-5:27)
Job’s response: He needs sympathy not condemnation (6:1-7:21)
2. Accuses Job of not heeding the wisdom of the ancient (15:1-35)
Job’s response: he turns to God and appeals to Him for all the unjust accusations (16:1-17:16)
3. Tells Job that God does not care with all his concerns (22:1-30)
Job’s response: God knows that he is without guilt, and yet God allows temporary success to come even to the wicked (23:1-24:25)
B. Bildad the Shuhite
1. Accuses Job of attacking God (8:1-22) thus he is saying that Job sinned against God… and your kids died because they have sinned before God.
Job’s response: He admits that he is not perfect, but his accusation was unfair (9:1-10:22)
2. Tells Job that he deserves all his sufferings (18:1-21)
Job’s response: He cries out to God for pity (19:1-29)
3. Makes fun of Job’s direct appeal to God (25:1-6)
Job’s response: God is indeed perfectly wise and sovereign (26:1-14)
C. Zophar the Naamathite
1. Tells Job to make things right before God (11:1-20)
Job’s response: he tells him that he is wrong and only God knows why he is suffering (12:1-14:22)
2. Accuses Job of rejecting God by questioning his justice (20:1-29)
Job’s response: he tells him that he is out of touch with reality (he does not know what he is saying (21:1-34)
Ø Job’s final defense (27:1-31:40)
1. He affirms his righteousness and that man cannot fathom the wisdom of God (27:1-28:28)
2. He defends his innocence and asked God to defend him (29:1-31:40)
D. Elihu (32:1-37:24)
1. Charges Job that God may have a loving purpose even in allowing suffering (32:1-33:33)
2. Urges Job to wait patiently before God (34:1-35:16)
3. He believes that God is discipling Job (36:1-21)
4. Argues that man cannot adequately understand God’s dealings in administering justice and mercy (36:22-37:24)
IV. The truthfulness of the Sovereign (38:1-42:17)
A. God declares his creative power and sovereignty (38:1-40:2)
Job’s answer: 40:3-5
B. God declares that his ways are higher that our ways (40:6-41:34)
No one can tame the Leviathan but God can… so is he can then who is greater than he?
Job’s answer: 42:1-6
C. God restores (42:7-17)
