Im Future Hamburg Talk spricht Carsten Joost, Geschäftsführer von Blu by AUG. PRIEN, über eines der derzeit innovativsten Bauprojekte Deutschlands: das Pilotprojekt UBS4 in Norderstedt.

Die Herstellung von Zement gilt als einer der emissionsintensivsten Industrieprozesse – rund 8 % der weltweiten CO₂-Emissionen gehen auf das Konto der Zementproduktion. Mit Geopolymerbeton, einer CO₂-reduzierten Zementalternative, die im deutschen Hochbau erstmals eingesetzt wird, sowie einer Holz-Hybridbauweise, setzt UBS4 neue Maßstäbe in puncto Ökobilanz, Klimaschutz und Ressourceneffizienz.

Carsten Joost zeigt auf, warum es mehr Mut zur Veränderung und mehr Kollaboration in der traditionell geprägten Bauindustrie braucht. In this Future Hamburg Talk, Carsten Joost, CEO of BLU by AUG. PRIEN, presents one of Germany’s most innovative construction projects: the UBS4 pilot in Norderstedt.

Cement production is considered one of the most carbon-intensive industrial processes – accounting for around 8% of global CO₂ emissions. In UBS4, geopolymer concrete is used as a CO₂-reduced alternative to conventional cement – marking a first in German high-rise construction. Combined with a hybrid timber structure, the project sets new standards in terms of carbon footprint, climate protection, and resource efficiency.

Carsten Joost explains why the construction industry needs more courage to change and more cross-sector collaboration. He shares key learnings from the project, discusses why greater diversity in housing is essential for resilient neighbourhoods – and highlights the role of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region as a hub for innovation in construction and real estate.
