Yoi-yama refers to the night before the yamaHoko junko and takes place on the three nights preceding the Saki Matsuri and the Ato Matsuri.
The atmosphere of the yoi-yama is completely different from that of the Sama Matsuri and Ato Matsuri.
At the Sama Matsuri, many stalls are set up in the streets in the evening, creating a lively festive mood in the town. At the Ato Matsuri, there are no pedestrian zones or stalls, but you can enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of the festival as it is meant to be. The Shijo KamaHoko Odori (dance) consists of eight children: two wielding poles, two ringing handbells, two beating drums, and two playing sasara percussion instruments. The pole-wielding dancers, who wear headdresses called shaguma, hold poles in their hands and dance to the accompaniment of the hayashi music.
