HIKING TAIWAN: Back on the trail of the 100 Peaks (重回台灣百岳的路)

Last year I set myself the goal of climbing Taiwan’s “100 Peaks” or 百岳. After four months back here in Taiwan, I finally got the chance earlier this month to add to my collection as I visited central Taiwan to climb Hehuan North and Hehuan West peaks, my 8th and 9th of the Top 100.

**IMPORTANT NOTE**: It has been brought to my attention that wild camping in the Hehuanshan region is NOT allowed. As I explained in the video I camped as a last resort because it was late and my delayed start meant that I would have had to hike the last few km in the dark (dangerous when alone).
Therefore I suggest an early start is the safest and best way to complete the trail without breaking park regulations.

Travel Details:
The best place to stay near Hehuanshan is at Qingjing (清境). There are a range of hotels and homestays in Qingjing.
You can get to Qingjing on a shuttle bus from Taichung HSR station (see link below).
From Qingjing you can take the 6658A bus to the Hehuanshan Service Station 合歡山管理站 and the Xiaofengkou (小風口) trailhead. (Warning: There are only 3 of these buses per day so plan accordingly.)
