SheTech: Finding Passion Between Stability and Curiosity, Melda's journey

In this episode of She:tech – From Dream to Career, I sit down with Melda, a brilliant mind whose journey crosses continents and disciplines — from studying economics to leading projects in spatial data science and responsible AI.

Melda’s story is one of curiosity, courage, and passion. After working in consulting in the UAE, she realized the data she was using wasn’t as rich or meaningful as she wanted — so she decided to do something about it. Her path led her to a PhD in Spatial Data Science, exploring how satellite data can fill critical information gaps.

When tragedy struck Lebanon, Melda used her skills to co-found OpenMap Lebanon, helping communities access real-time data during disasters. Later, she joined Uber, where she found a new balance between stability and passion, eventually moving into Responsible AI.
