Kurt Elling rose from obscurity and achieved international notoriety by using the Chicago jazz scene as a springboard - especially his tenure at the legendary Green Mill night club. http://www.greenmilljazz.com

From 1986 to 1994 the "Chicago Jazz Express" was produced by the Jazz Institute of Chicago (JIC) in tandem with the Chicago Public Schools as an educational outreach program for high school students. It involved concerts in the public schools but also follow-up activities such as study guides about the history of the music.

In the video you're watching, the Jazz Express ensemble is in concert at Chicago's Cook County Jail on November 3,1993. The drummer is the late, great Wilbur Campbell who played with many of the jazz masters during his long career. Wilbur made his transition on December 30, 1999 at the age of 73.
