Meghalaya - North East Ch. 4

We took a trip to wettest place in the peak monsoon and hoped to get away with it somehow. We did witness a lot of rains but also a fair share of beautiful clouds and amazing green stretches of hills, the beauty that is at its peak in Monsoon and being wet was a small price in order to witness the beauty.

I guess we had some communication issue with the driver we hired, as we explained to him that we want to visit villages, and capture the tribal ways of Khasi folk and instead he gave us a full touristic trip of Meghalaya. He even took us to Bangladesh border, and i have no idea why he did so. Anyhow, the place and the views were amazing and it is rightly the land of clouds and the falls (water). Just endless and endless falls varying in all sorts.

After three days of forced touristic travel, one of my friend took us on a ride to show us around Meghalaya and that was a life saver. Now, we got a bit closer look to Khasi Folk and also witnessed a traditional game of 'Teer', and beetle nut forests, 100 year old houses, Kwai, the smoking pipe with hand made local tobacco (which was black in colour and tasted just awesome).

We couldn't capture much on this trip as most of the time our cameras were wet, clothes that wouldn't dry, the hikes that we couldn't do, villages and culture we couldn't see and the taxi driver, hell bent on showing us all tourist spots (wasn't his fault, he just didn't understand what we wanted). However, it was a good experience visiting Meghalaya in Monsoon and we hope to return soon to better capture the culture of Khasi Folks and hill tribes.
