Polaris has announced the 2020 Polaris general XP 1000, and it might be one of the most well-rounded, best "everything" Side by Sides out yet!

The all new 2020 Polaris General is running the not so new Prostar 999cc engine. Now, I should clarify that I don't mean that in a bad way. Polaris has been running the 999cc Prostar engine for a couple years now in many different models and it has done well for them. For the Polaris General, the Prostar is pushing out 100hp (For comparison, thats 8 more hp than the Canam Commander Limited).
This 100 hp engine gives the General a 1500 lb towing capacity and the ability to get up and move without hesitation when you give er' some gas.
The General XP 1000 is sitting at one of my favorite widths for a side by side, 64". Personally, I am a huge fan of the 64" width as it gives you the ability to have a wider stance while still being able to fit in relatively tight places.
At either end of those 64" you will notice 30" Pro Armor Crawler tires attached to 15" rims. Moving inward from there are High clearance A-Arms providing 13.5" of ground clearance. This is really my only complaint about the General XP 1000. In a world where Polaris is giving their ATVs 14.5" of ground clearance, I would have liked to at least see 14" on the new General, especially considering its the more expensive option. Not as a caveat to saying that it would be wrong of me not to give credit to Polaris because after all, that 13.5" is leading the class for ground clearance (I believe the Can-am Commander sits around 11").
Aside from the hard specs, there are a few amazing features you will also find in the new Polaris General, starting with its included 4,500lb winch. I have always preached that a winch is a necessity, so anytime a manufacturer is going to include one is a huge bonus in my book.
Next is the Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio System. I know this is a hit or miss with some riders, as some prefer the roaring sounds of an engine and nature over the loudness of music. For the other style of rider, however, you are sure to enjoy this 4 speaker system and 10" subwoofer all being powered by a 400w amp, all of which can be controlled through the Ride Command touch screen.
Speaking of Ride Command, even if music isn't your thing Polaris has gone ahead and made a few other changes that may bring you to looking at that Ride Command screen more than in previous years. Polaris claims they have added a new antenna system that allows vehicle to vehicle tracking. Now I have used this with their app in the past and have loudly stated it just sucks (starting with the fact you need data service in the middle of nowhere). So personally, I am extremely intrigued by this new feature and look forward to seeing it in action!
Finally, there are some overall changes to the look, such as LED headlights that look absolutely amazing, a low profile front bumper, and high coverage fender flares.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think Polaris has announced a winner with this Polaris General XP 1000 and I cannot wait to get behind the wheel and test it out. On paper, it appears to be an absolutely outstanding "everything" side by side. That is...as long as you are excepting of its $22,999!
As always we would love for you to leave a comment below with your thoughts. Thanks for watching, and as always I hope to see you on the trail!
