This video was created by our long-suffering tour manager Bart, for the virtual album launch we did at the Boerderij in Holland last month. We felt this was something we should share with the world, so today, we challenge you all to your very cores as this is the song that seems to be the least loved from the band of brothers on "Fireworker" and I feel, that it deserves, another chance by those of you who still fail to see how anyone could record, not to mention release, something like this.
The title of the song refers to the "Fireworker" as what it is, an antique. In fact the oldest antique we know, most of the land masses on earth are younger than the first life as things have changed on land (and in the sea for that matter) so life is older than most of it.
The rocks that make Oslo and the surrounding areas are a result of volcanic activity a mere billion years ago. Practically still not unboxed really (something we shall have to look at later I suppose for our series).
And because of geological and climatological (if that is word?) changes in the environment, our friend the Fireworker, needed to change its host creature at regular intervals so it would adapt to whatever were the current conditions on earth.
To do this it needed reproduction and death, which I suppose means it has much in common with these emo kids you see lounging about with dark make-up.
Death is especially important as it needs to conserve energy for new and improved generations and to a lot of us that is a bit of a bummer. But there it is my lovelies.
Reproduction on the other hand seems to be much more popular and as it is richly rewarded chemically (in the brain) by the Fireworker, we are willing to jump through a number of hoops and generally do what we can to increase our status in the fight for sexual success.
Hence our never ending need to build more wealth and collect more goods than we would ever really need, to enhance our status and power, and in doing so sacrifice our lives as commuters (before the pandemic I mean) travelling to jobs that we hate and spending most of our lives paying off the stuff we bought that we thought would improve our chances. "Going deeper into hell".
The second verse is, as cheesy as it may seem, a homage to Nietschze and his "Zarathustra" which mentions this will to power and maybe there is a sighting of the Fireworker in the book too. Read it and tell us if you agree, it is heavy going but my it will turn your lockdown into a wild ride my baby. Imagine returning to work one day, with all that wisdom with your long grey hair and beard (you too ladies, come on get into the spirit of the thing) and as the sage you have become reject all worldly goods only to sit at your desk meditating upon the flight of the butterfly wing and waiting for lunch. For as long as they'll have you of course.
The last part of the song are all the people now in their graves (under crosses) wanting to wake up to relive a beautiful life on this beautiful planet but cant.
The AI imagery is a fun theory on how the Fireworker may be using us stepping stones until it can evolve its hosts to the point where we create an AI that reaches the singularity and makes it truly immortal as it can live on without the embarrassment and bother of owning a body.
That would make it like a God and what a terrifying God it would be.
