My name is Xanthe Wyse. I am an artist with a science background.
I am interested in the science and art of colour.
Sometimes, I paint an abstracted colour study. I explained some concepts related to colour theory and paint pigments.
Unfortunately, I had to cut out more than half of the footage I recorded, as the sound was muffled.
Still had enough to hopefully be helpful.
The abstracted colour study, Prismatic, has nearly 100 painted triangles, each with a different colour. I used mostly glazes, which are transparent layers with the pigments spread out.
No triangle has the exact same colour. Yet, there aren't actually that many colours to start with. Just different proportions of pigments.
The pigments haven't chemically reacted to form new pigments. We just perceive colours which look different, yet when look closely, in this abstract, I can see the original colours. As, some of them have granulated (clumped with a mottled effect).
I used artist-grade acrylic paints and mediums.
Had inadequate 'natural light', so filmed this under neutral artificial light.
