The SkyShredders, a raider airship. || Fallout 76 Build

The Skyshredders started as a breakaway faction from several raider gangs fighting over scrap near the old Thunder Mountain Power Plant. Among them was a half-mad but brilliant former Brotherhood scribe named Caleb “Wirebrain” Rourke, exiled for “reckless experimentation.” Rourke had been obsessed with pre-war aviation blueprints—military blimps, cargo zeppelins, and prototype heavy-lift airships that never made it into deployment.

When he stumbled onto an incomplete schematics cache in an abandoned Brotherhood relay station, he convinced a group of raiders that he could build something no one in Appalachia would dare challenge: a mobile fortress in the sky.

Birth of the Blimp: The “Shredder One”

Scavenging everything from rusted steel beams to intact helium cells buried in research storage, Rourke and his crew spent years assembling their monstrosity. But the true innovation came from their fuel source, discovered purely by accident.

One night a raider tried burning collected mirelurk oil—harvested from deep-swamp queens and kings—to see if it was flammable. Not only did it burn, it burned slow, hot, and with a pressure output perfect for modified pre-war combustion cells. Rourke quickly engineered a hybrid propulsion system:

Helium and scrap-bag buoyancy for lift

Mirelurk-oil combustion thrusters for forward drive

Reinforced steel gondola for crew and weapon mounts

The result was an airship that looked like a cross between a battle barge and a stitched-together weather balloon, but it worked—and it terrified everyone who saw it.

Six Front Cannons — “The Jaw of the Sky”

The Skyshredders mounted six salvaged artillery cannons to the prow of the blimp, welded in a forward-facing arc pattern they call the Jaw of the Sky. Their ammunition is an unpredictable mix of:

repurposed mortar shells

handmade scrap rounds

chemical-filled barrels

explosive junk packed into oil drums

The recoil nearly tears the gondola apart each time they fire, but Rourke’s brace system—steel tendons and rubber shock meshes—keeps it in one piece. Barely.

When the Jaw fires a full volley, the sky lights up like a thunderstorm of scrap and fire. Entire camps have been erased in seconds.

How They Operate

The Skyshredders use the “Shredder One” for:

High-altitude scouting

Surprise bombardments on settlements

Airborne intimidation passes

Loot runs where the blimp hovers and winches down raider squads

Their philosophy is simple:
If we own the sky, we own Appalachia.

They believe the ground is for scavengers, but the sky is for rulers. Their insignia—a torn wing with razor edges—appears painted across their blimp’s hull and smeared on their armor.

Culture & Reputation

Skyshredders consider themselves “stormborn,” above land-bound raiders. Their initiation ritual involves collecting a vial of mirelurk oil and proving they can climb the mooring ropes of the blimp without falling.

Most Wastelanders whisper that they’re insane. Some say their blimp is held together more by superstition than engineering. But anyone who’s seen the floating fortress with six cannons blazing and the smell of burning mirelurk oil trailing behind it knows one thing:

If the sky starts to rumble… run.
