Dressing the Frame

You need:

A frame that is made of two large bars and two shorter pieces for the sides.

A screw and a wing Nut.

Silk organza

A strong Thread

A needle

Scissors

The both large bars with the twill tape are facing each other.

Make a line with a pencil on your frame and mark the middle.

Push one side away to have place to work.

You take your piece of silk organza and fold it to find the middle. Putt a pin.

Your right side of the fabric is underneath.

You place it in the middle of the frame and start to pin it to the twill tape.

Attach the fabric exactly at the edge of the twill tape.

Take a heavy thread, longer than your fabric and make a knot.

Starting from right to left, using a few back stitches, fix the corners, because they have to withstand a lot of pressure.

Make the stitching from the side of the twill tape and stich directly on grain to stay straight.

Make sure that your fabric has not slipped away and the cut edge stays even with the twill tape.

The length of your stitches are a half an inch apart. It is a simple running stich. Equal stitches in a straight line.

At the end you will make again, a few back stitches, and some vertical stitches to secure it. Cut the thread.

Turn the whole pice around that you can pin the other side exactly the same way you pinned the first side.

Repeat the whole process.

Push the bars apart and stretch them.
If the fabric is large you can roll it on one of the bars to shorten it.
The twill tape is in a flat position now.

If you don’t want to use too much till tape, place the bars near the fabric.

Put the side bars under the large bars to keep a flat surface.

Use the screws to secure the side bars. Make sure that the both screws near you are very tight than pull the other sides too.

Use twill tape to measure between the bars, to see if the both sides are stretched evenly.

Now is the time to stretch the sides of the fabric. Use a soft twill tape and pins. 5 to 6 meters of till tape for each side are enough .

Spread a few pins on the fabric
Start with the left side.

Place the twill tape at the edge of the fabric and, 1,5 cm from the side apart put your first pin, using two stitches up and down, through the fabric. Leaving space at the sides you avoid the fabric to rip.

Place the twill tape over the side bar, without pulling too much and pin it again 2mm further inside. The tendency is to get smaller and smaller.

If you bring the twill tape from above, place it up again. If you bring it from below, bring it back down again, under the bar.

From above goes back over the bar.
From bellow goes back down again.

Insert the rest of the twill tape between the stretched ones.

Turn your frame and stretch the other side.

This time you pull the twill tape really tight.

It has to become like a tambourine.

And, voila! You’re done!
