In this journal entry we'll take a look at a little known 1985 GUI that was one of the first for microcomputers. In 1984, the Macintosh introduced the idea of a GUI for microcomputers, followed in early 1985 by GEM for the PC, and later that year by QL's ICE and Amiga's Workbench. ICE had a leg up on these interfaces as it was completely ROM-based, booting instantly and taking up little memory. Find out what it could do and what features it had. The QL, and its company, ended in 1986, so there was no time for ICE to be upgraded or ported to other platforms, but with only 16K in size, it was a remarkable feat of engineering of a full featured graphical environment.
