To the landscape artist looking for drama and spectacle, The Lake District is pure nectar.
With numerous classic fell walks aplenty in the area, the temptation is always to head for the more obvious, popular locations, but discovering lesser-known spots can also be immensely satisfying.
Glencoyne itself isn't a lot to look at - it's a broad, rather featureless U-shaped valley - probably glacial in origin, but the views down towards Ullswater from the Head of the valley are quite spectacular.
Here then is a brief collection of highlights from the walk in which we had all varieties of weather squeezed into the course of one day, starting out with the magnificent Aira Force, and featuring some amazing views across the fells. I'll also be showing you how I like to create the effects of low clouds clinging to the sides of hills and then rising as they evaporate in the heat...
