The IBM PS/1 Essential was first released in 1990 with a design that leaned heavily on IBM’s proprietary hardware. Though it swayed many reviewers, consumers remained reluctant to buy into IBM’s ecosystem. So, in 1993, IBM revamped the line-up to be more like conventional IBM-compatible MS-DOS computers from Compaq, HP, and so on. The result was a well-rounded gaming, entertainment, and productivity machine…though it did have limits!
Corrections:
I said it was a 129GB hard drive, but obviously, it was 129MB.
When stating Doom was released after the PS/1 Essential, I meant the model that I have, not the original in 1990.
