The fire, which took place in 2016, began as a controlled burn started by the Nevada Division of Forestry and the University of Nevada but later swarmed into an out-of-control blaze that took days to extinguish and caused over $80 million in property damage. The state denies liability and says the fire was caused by unusually high winds.
