TOSCA - "CICLO PUCCINI" di Anversa con la regia di R. Carsen.
Il mio debutto nel ruolo di Mario Cavaradossi in TOSCA risale al 2/8/1989 con l’Opera di Roma al Teatro delle Terme di Caracalla, al fianco della grandissima Giovanna Casolla e con il grande barítono svedese Ingvar Wixel nel ruolo di Scarpia, nella storica produzione di Mario Bolognini e la direzione di Jan Latham-Koenig. Certo… quella fu per me una sola recita “secca” fatta, tra l’altro, praticamente senza prove, ma con la grande soddisfazione di avere potuto cantare almeno una volta nella “vecchia” storica sede delle Tearme di Caracalla prima che le stagioni estive fossero interrotte e spostate nell’attuale sede dove ne 2009 celebrai proprio ancora con TOSCA i vent’anni dal mio debutto in una produzione diretta dal maestro Paolo Olmi con Micaela Carosi e Giorgio Surjan con la regia di Franco Ripa di Meana.Il mio debutto ufficiale in una produzione di TOSCA fu invece ancora nel ciclo Puccini di Anversa, in quella bellissima produzione di Robert Carsen che fu poi ripresa moltissime volte prima ad Amburgo e poi a Barcellona, alla Fenice di Venezia e all’Opera di Zurigo: ho avuto l’opportunità di cantare proprio in tutte quelle riprese di quell’opera che avevo creato proprio insieme al regista canadese. Una produzione davvero magnifica quella firmata dalle scene e costumi di Anhony Ward e che fin dalla prima rappresentazione del 21/11/1991 con il soprano americano Karen Huffstodt nel ruolo della protagonista e il basso-Baritono tedesco Falk Struckmann nel ruolo di Scarpia, riscosse uno strepitoso successo unanime di pubblico e di critica. La direzione d’orchestra era sempre affidata a Silvio Varviso e la regia video fu curata proprio dallo stesso Robert Carsen. Una produzione memorabile che sono orgoglioso di aver tenuto a battesimo e che sicuramene molti appassionati avranno avuto modo di vedere in alcuni dei teatri che ho nominato.

Of course ... that was for me only one performance made, among other things, practically without rehearsals, but with the great satisfaction of having been able to sing at least once in the "old" historical site of the Terme di Caracalla before the summer seasons were interrupted and moved to the current location where in 2009 I still celebrated with TOSCA the twenty years since my debut in hat role, in a production directed by Paolo Olmi with Micaela Carosi and Giorgio Surjan under the direction of Franco Ripa di Meana.
My official debut in a TOSCA production was again in the Puccini cycle in Antwerp, in the beautiful production by Robert Carsen which was then taken up after that premiere many times: first in Hamburg and then in Barcelona, ​​at the Fenice of Venice and at the Zurich Opera: I had the opportunity to sing precisely in all those productions of that work that I had created together with the Canadian director. A truly magnificent production with the scenes and costumes by Anhony Ward and that since the first performance on 21/11/1991 with the American soprano Karen Huffstodt in the role of the protagonist and the German bass-Baritone Falk Struckmann in the role of Scarpia, collected one resounding unanimous success of public and critics. The conducting of the orchestra was always by Silvio Varviso and the video direction was curated by Robert Carsen himself. A memorable production that I am proud to have baptized and that surely many fans will have had the opportunity to see in some of the theaters I mentioned.
