Reial Cos de Carrabiners de Costes I Fronteres & Castell de Rocabruna

A morning hike with snow and beautiful views at Reial Cos de Carrabiners de Costes I Fronteres, and after going back down in altitude and visit the amazing Castell de Rocabruna (Alta Garrotxa)

Remains of the old barracks of the Carabinieri Corps that guarded the border.

It was built in the 1920s for the guards and their families, but the harsh climate soon led to their relocation to the village of Molló, and it served only as a checkpoint.
It was finally abandoned in the 1960s. The retreat route followed by the Republicans from the village of Molló towards the border at Coll d'Ares also passes through here.

It is built on a hill offering a commanding view of the Beget Valley, the Alta Garrotxa region, and the Coll de Ares, Coll Profundo, and Coll de Malrem passes.

It is an architectural complex comprised of several fortified buildings surrounded by a perimeter wall that serves as a defensive rampart.

It is first mentioned in a document from 1070. Much of the walls that divided the various sections of the fortification are still visible. Currently, part of what was the castle chapel remains, along with a rectangular nave, a circular tower, and a rectangular keep with several arrow slits.

The monument is open to the public and features a guided route with explanatory panels and several viewpoints.
