Spark, inspiration, or stud farming in Umamusume means that I'm running the career with the goal to have the best possible Inspirations to pass to future careers. 3-Spark inspirations are quite rare to begin with, but playing the careers in this way means that when you DO roll a 3-spark inspiration, your stud has high compatibility, and the best chance at many sparks to trigger, grey sparks for hints, race sparks for stats, and pink sparks for aptitudes.

Compatibility in Uma is fairly tedious to calculate, but it's structured so that your decisions to improve compatibility is very straightforward - win more races, win higher tier races, pair up legacies that win the same races, and win those races in your next career too.

When you get an individual legacy with a high race winning record, you pair it with another that won the same circuit of races, and win those races again on the next generation. This way, all 3 of the legacies share as many overlapping victories as possible. Then repeat again for the other half of your legacies.

This is very different from playing career for the best possible event/PvP racer, but the goal would be to use your high compatibility legacies to prepare S-tier event/PvP racers. Farming competition racers often means gambling for low-rate events like acupuncturist, onsen tickets, and hitting high-value training when there is a change to fail, but legacy compatibility allows you to improve your luck in other areas like sparks, and have a better time overall.
