Here is a tough how to video: removing the steering rack on a classic Saab 900 without removing the engine. Yes, it is possible. No, it is not easy.
This is was one of the most frustrating jobs I've done. It's up there along with the Focus alternator (which was before I started this channel) and the Focus thermostat. Over the course of a month of working on and off, I was able to mostly follow the Bentley manual and get the rack out.
I said I was following the Bentley manual but the video might not be in the same order as the steps. This was filmed over the course of a month and I forgot the order it was supposed to be in. There also might be consistency errors.
One more excuse, this was hard enough to do on it's own and even harder to do while filming. Apologies for not getting the best shot and missing some footage but hopefully this will help someone out there.
