Steam Incorporated's preserved locomotives NZR Ab 608 and Ja 1271 provided double-headed motive power for a 14-total train up the main trunk of the North Island, New Zealand on Saturday 21 June 2025. Dubbed the Main Trunk Steam Spectacular it provided impressive sights as it headed north from Paekakiriki to Ohakune and back in one day. This video includes shots on its northwards journey at Marton (departure), Hunterville, over the Makohine viaduct, Rauma Road crossing (just south of Taihape), Taihape (departure), Turangariri loop, Waiouru (SH1 overbridge), Tangiwai Bridge, and scenes at Ohakune. Southbound we see scenes covering Ohakune (departure in rain), Waiouru station, crossing bridge near Hihitahi, Taihape (arrival and departure), Mangaweka (SH1 road crossing), Hunterville, Marton (departure) and crossing the Oroua River just south of Feilding (in the dark).
