Nature and Life Episode 146 (Lawachara National Park)

Lawachara National Park has been formed with part of West Bhanugach Reserved Forest of Moulvibazar district.
The ecosystem here, is rich with diversified plants species due to its hilly geographical structure and adequate rainfall.
Because of those plants, this park has become a sanctuary for various wildlife.
With its rich biodiversity, this park has turned the country's North-East region into a naturally attractive region.
Beside entertaining visitors, this park has also opened the door of opportunity to research on various biological issues.
Numerous hilly streams flow between small hills of this park.
Mainly these streams keep this park alive.
Diversified plants grow in the moist soil of the park.
Herbs and shrubs spread throughout the park.
Here bushes are full of various colorful wild flowers.
These flowers have created color diversity within the green of this park.
This very diversity has been amplified by Orchids.
Such park makes even human mind drifting, let alone wildlife.
Various climbers can be seen in the park.
They climb host trees like serpent.
Those host trees have been guarding the uniqueness of the park for ages.
Garjan, Fig, Telshur, Albizia spp., Chikrasi, Teak, Chapalish, Lohakath etc. are the dominant tree of this park.
They can be seen more or less everywhere in the park.
Beside these, a number of Bamboo and Rattan clusters can be seen here.
Depending on these plants, a large kingdom of wildlife has emerged in Lawachara National Park.
Various insects ramble on the soil and plants of this park.
Their calls keep the park resonant throughout the time.
Various species of spiders can be seen here.
They proficiently build webs on tree branches.
The color and smell of wildflowers make Butterflies, Moth and Grasshoppers to fly around.
This park is also rich with Amphibians.
Various species of Frogs and Tadpoles can be seen in and around streams.
Among those Indian Cricket Frog, Ornate Microhylid Frog, Smith's Litter Frog, Balloon Frog and Red Microhylid Frog are common.
Various Tree Frog species can be seen in trees around streams.
This park is home to a large portion of Reptiles of Bangladesh.
Various Lizards like: Gecko, Skink, Monitor Lizard etc. can be seen the bushes of this park.
Sometimes they can also be seen in trees in quest of livelihood.
Most of the species of Snakes found in this park are non-venomous but some are venomous.
Though majority of the Snakes' species live in ground, but some are tree living.
The country's largest reptile species Python is still surviving in this park.
This park is also home to Indo-Chinese Rat Snake, Cobra, Krait, Painted Bronzeback, Wolf Snake etc.
Thousands of species of birds also reside in this park.
Here Red Jungle Fowl, Sunbird, Tailor Bird, Flycatcher, Bulbul, Babble etc. birds can be seen in bushes.
Calls of Drongo, Yellow fronted Leafbird, Dove, Green Pigeon, Wood pecker, Hill myna, Parakeet, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Rufous Treepie etc. birds keep the park resonant.
Various species of mammals have enriched the biodiversity of this park.
Hedgehog, Fishing Cat, Civet etc. mammals roam in here.
Beside these, the park become alive with the presence of Barking Deer.
Squirrel and Mongoose are also among inhabitants of this park.
A number of species of Monkey and Langur can be seen in here.
Most of the time these group living animals forage for feeding in the large and medium sized fruit producing trees.
Sometimes they also roam in Bamboo clusters.
Endangered species Gibbon can be seen in here.
They spend most of the in the tall trees of the park.
For hundreds of years, the ecosystem of this park has been enduring with diversified species of wildlife and plants.
But the Roads inside the park are hindering the usual movement of wildlife.
Unrestricted access of vehicles is damaging the natural lifestyle of wildlife.
Moreover, wildlife are losing habitat and breeding ground due to deforestation.
As a result, a number of wildlife are now critically endangered.
Consequently, the complete ecosystem of the park is also endangered.
Some conservation initiatives are being taken through co-management activities.
But those are not enough and apposite biodiversity conservation management strategy is required.
Only then will survive this unique ecosystem of our country.
